Mysterious Statue Discovered In Coffins Grove Burial

Delaware: A strange three foot tall terracotta statue has been unearthed by University of Emmetsburg archeologists digging on the ground of the Coffins Grove Observatory Facility since the remains of a two-headed giant was discovered there in November. According to Project Director Dr. Ernst Fossilman, the statue stands about one meter, or three feet, with a tall, distended head, large cheeks and almond-shaped eyes. Archeologists are assuming that the statue was placed in the giant's grasp as some sort of grave good, but certain experts outside the excavation team believe the statue represents proof of extraterrestial visitors to this planet.

"If the morphology of the piece is taken into consideration in its entirety, no other explanation can be possible," says Pierce Hillus of the Student Extraterrestial Advisory Team at the University of Emmetsburg. "Aliens were on this planet over 65 million years ago deliberately manipulating the gene pool to produce beings compatible with themselves. The being that was discovered buried with the fetish may well be one of their failures."

Dr. Fossilman is less fanciful in his interpretation. "We know that the property used to be the Angel Sanitarium from 1856 to 1929. It was a private mental institution. Most of its records are lost. What we in all likelihood have here is one of their inmates who was buried here around the turn of the century. As for the figurine, perhaps he made it or something."

Hillus never the less contends the burial is highly suggestive of ancient interstellar intelligence, citing the lack of disturbance in the soil. "The layers of soil show no disturbance at all. This indicates the body was left where it was and covered over by 65 million years of erosion."

Asked about the lack of disturbance in the soil layers as would happen to a recent burial, Dr. Fossilman shakes his head, "It is strange, but we're getting a geomorphologist in here to examine it. All the same, we're waiting on dates from the bone samples some time next week."
