Assault Victim Survives In Meat Freezer

Lee: It was midnight Saturday, March 28, as 24 year old Russel Amos began locking up the Admah's Get 'n Gone store in Benbow when two strangely attired men walked in an attacked him with swords. Stabbed in his chest and hurt by numerous smaller wounds as well, his attackers dragged young man into the store's walk-in freezer and left him to die. They then ransacked the store taking the register, safe, as well as a large amount of alcohol and fled.

It was only Monday morning, March 31, when the store manager, Harris Wilcott discovered the apparently dead Amos lying frozen stiff on the freezer floor. When the paramedics arrived, they were able to detect a faint pulse. Amos was evacuated by air to Georg von Podebrad Medical Center where physicians say his condition is guarded but stable. Doctor Martin Schloss told reporters that Amos only survived the attack because he had been put in the freezer for so long that his wounds effectively frozen shut and his metabolism dropped to a rate far below normal.

Lee County Sheriff Art Delmay told reporters that no trace of the thieves has been discovered as yet, but that his men are still examining the scene.

It is perhaps ironic that retail grocery stores across the country had advertised March as "National Frozen Food Month".
