Letter to the Editor

submitted by Damiano Palmonetti

Attention Readers of this Publication:

On May 29, 1997, Mr. Joseph Green of Zoar, Iowa, assaulted with firearms the Masonic Temple there located. He was then shot and killed by the police of that town (see: Madman Shot Assaulting Masonic Temple, June, 1997, vol. 4, Issue #6).

Whilst firing at the building, Green shouted accusations of conspiracy at the Masons, linking them to Aleister Crowley and the Bavarian Illuminati, amongst other, more arcane organizations.

Recently, investigators into Green's crime have reported in local media that Green was a part of an organization known as the Milieu d'Or, or Society of Gold. This I know to be untrue. The Milieu has been extinct for several hundred years now, and all that remains is an off shoot called the Sons of Light. It is that organization which I represent, and it is that same organization to which Mr. Green belonged. I feel therefore that it is my duty to set some facts straight.

First, Green was not representing the Sons of Light or their views in his assault on the Zoar Masonic Temple. While we do feel that the Masons have a great number of secrets that border on conspiracy, we feel that these secrets are primarily financial in nature, with some political nuances. That Green connected the Masons with magickal organizations such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn undermines the truth that the Sons of Light seek to expose.

It is essential, when trying to uncover the truths beneath the surface of daily life, that we do not throw spears of accusation in the gale of passion. When we do, the spear invariably misses its mark. But when our minds are calm and our hearts steady, then the spear flies to its mark, and truth is revealed in the bull's eye. Mr. Green missed his mark and in doing so, did not reveal truth but instead disseminated chaos; a disorder which lead to his own death.

So as not to invite further suspicion upon the Sons of Light, I would like to assure the readers of this magazine that we are a benevolent organization, seeking only to ferret out the facts behind some of the greatest lies and conspiracies of all time. Naturally, we analyze the machinations of Government, from the smallest township to global politics. Each stage, each part of Government is linked to the rest, often in scarcely perceptable ways. And it is the Methusulahs behind the scenes that are pulling all the strings. Government is not run by elected figureheads or by cartoonish dictators, but instead by men behind the scenes, so well hidden that even Government doesn't know who some of them are.

But this sort of conspiracy talk may seem like old hat by now. I understand that the public needs proof of conspiracy to break it out of its complacency. Already the Kennedy assassination is unraveling. It is strands like these that we tug to get deeper into the web of lies. If we do not doubt Government, then we will never know the truth.

There is more to the Sons of Light, however, and this is an aspect that perhaps only readers of this publication may find acceptable. Green referred to several magickal persons and organizations in his tirade that fateful day in May. These were not simply the ravings of a madman. The Sons have a great interest in the magickal world, and are curious as to how magick has influenced events over the centuries. Certainly the greatest magickal development over the past two centuries was Aleister Crowley and his connection with the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn (an organization dedicated to exploring and practicing traditional, ancient magicks). However, the group appears to have disappeared, leaving only the modern witch, or Wiccan, to carry on magickal tradition. I say "appears" to have disappeared when referring to the Golden Dawn, because we believe that Hermetic magick is still being employed, but that modern magickal organizations are far more loathe to make themselves known to the public than in Crowley's day.

We also are searching for remaining practitioners of the Milieu d'Or. Although I mentioned above that this organization has been extinct for some time, it is possible that a handful of individuals across the globe have found tomes or scrolls once held by the Milieu. When the Sons of Light rejected magick two and a half centuries ago, they split from the Milieu forever. We now retain none of the works to which we were once privy.

I only bring this to the attention of the public because I feel it is important to separate the motives and ideals of our benevolent organization from the misguided actions and beliefs of one former member. I thank this publication for the space they are allowing me, and I thank you for your time.
