Woman Falls From The Stars

submitted by John Burrows

Pocahontas: A woman wearing a long black gown with sequened lace fell out of the night sky and onto an iron fence outside a Luthern church on February 22, three days before Ash Wednesday. The date is significant because it is Washington's Birthday, but this year it was also Shrovetide, one of the great witch Sabbats. At present it has not been confirmed that the victim was a witch, but the possibility can not be discounted.

The body struck a spiked wrought-iron fence surrounding Concordia Luthern Church around 11PM. The thud was heard from inside by janitor Donato Shallicus.

"There was one hell of a loud bang outside," Shallicus said, "I mean, I heard this thing over my headphones while I was mopping the entryway. I went outside and found this woman's body pretty much ripped in half and part of the iron fence buckled. When you see a dead lady, you call the cops, and that's what I did. Oh, and by the way....cops don't do clean up. They took the body away, but guess who has to go out and steam-blast the blood off the walk before morning services...that's right, me."

Detective Arlen Mosell arrived on the scene and confirmed the demise of the victim. He reported that though the church steeple is about the height of a 20-story building, the condition of the woman's body indicated that she had to have fallen from a much greater height.

"We have no clue," was all Mosell would say of the status of the investigation.

The woman in the black gown had no identification, and authorities are baffled as to who she might be. She is described as white with shoulder length black hair. Police estimate she was in her mid-30s to late 40s and weighed between 120 to 150 pounds. Any one who knows the identity of this woman is requested to call the Highland City Police Department with information. Calls to local airports have indicated no flyovers of Highland City on the night in question and attempts to identify the the woman through her fingerprints have as yet yeilded no results. An autopsy has concluded that she was alive before the fall.
