Letters from Gregory Wilhelm

Fayette: Third Eye Over Iowa has remained committed to reporting events involving the Men in Black in Putnam (see: January, 1997, vol.4, Issue #1 and February, 1997, vol.4, Issue #2 ). Now it seems that these Men are getting closer to their prey. Marjorie Wilhelm recently talked to this publication and reported that her husband, Gregory, has not returned from the Boston conference he was to attend in February and March of this year. He had been a researcher for Tesla Research Laboratories' Aeronautics Division. She also reported a visit from Men in Black, two odd and mysterious men that wanted to know about her husband's work at Tesla, and where he could be found.

Mrs. Wilhelm has received two type written letters from her souse, and she says she doubts their authenticity. Both letters are postmarked from Boston. Third Eye has agreed to reprint the letters here, at Mrs. Wilhelm's request.

(Postcard)3 March, 1997

     Dearest Marjorie,

Rest easy sweets. Everyone at Research Council has indicated no trouble on aerospace link investigation. Even now all research time is furiously at closing. This project's under time! Maybe even if Nolan Derringer and Nellie Graves expect research going on in NASA, good! Then o Love, it may be over.

     Love always, Gregory

     (letter)7 March, 1997

     Dear Marjorie,

I am sorry t must communicate such bad news to you by mail, but I cannot imagine speaking these words aloud. I am afraid I will not be returning to Iowa soon, or even ever. My work has so absorbed me that, although I still care for you, I don't feel I have time for a good marriage. I am relocating to the East Coast. Everything I had is now yours. I don't know if you can ever forgive me, but please try. I regret that we must never see each other again.

     Love, Gregory

Mrs. Wilhelm, distraught by these letters, nevertheless felt there was something peculiar about them. The first letter, she noted, seemed jilted in style, and not nearly as natural as Gregory generally wrote. The second letter she found impossible to accept. She would not, and does not believe that her husband of twenty years would pick up and leave her so suddenly, especially after the happy marriage she says that they had.

In fact, if the first letter seems awkward in style, that's probably because it is. Staff members at this magazine spent some time analyzing these letters, and discovered that the first contains a coded message. The code is simple enough: simply read only the first letter of each word in the body of the letter. The message then reads: Research into alien artifact put me in danger going to limbo.

Marjorie supposes that the alien artifact referred to may be the two-foot-long cylinder that Gregory had been working on before he flew to Boston, but she has no idea to what "limbo" refers. She is also certain that Gregory is aware that the Men in Black are looking for him, and can only assume that they are the source of "danger."

In the meantime, the Men in Black have made no new appearances in Putnam. Still, residents should be aware, and are invited to share any additional sightings or contact with these creatures to this magazine.
